Dogs of this breed have a short back, well sprung ribs, a short tail, and a heavy and finely chiseled head, with an intelligent and noble expression, without signs of shyness. The coat of purebred dogs is of clear coal-black, mahogany-red, yellowish, or tan colors and straight or slightly wavered, but not curly.
